CRPD State Parties meet in New York

The 9th session of the Conference of the State Parties to the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities took place in New York from 14 to 16 June 2016. During the conference, the representatives of 164 state parties to the Convention and other participants discussed giving priority to ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities in the process of implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, eliminating poverty among them, protecting persons with mental disability, and improving information and technological accessibility for persons with disabilities through roundtables.

Delegates of the NHRCM headed by Chief Commissioner Byambadorj Jamsran participated in the 9th Session of the Conference and the tripartite meeting of the UNOHCHR, UNDP, and GANHRI.

During these Conference and Meeting the Permanent Mission of Mongolia to the UN in New York, jointly with the GANHRI and APF, held the event named "Demonstrating the work of National Human Rights Institutions on the rights of persons with disabilities and the value of their participation in the United Nations Conference of State Parties of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" at the UN Headquarter on 14 June 2016, and UNOHCHR and Permanent Mission of Italy, Argentine, and Namibia jointly held the event named "Mental health in the context of 2030 Agenda: Moving from global commitment to local action” on 14 June 2016.

The 6th tripartite meeting of UNDP, UNOHCHR, GANHRI discussed how UNDP support can be provided to strengthen the capacity of NHRIs and how the parties can cooperate and released draft joint Protocol to present to the GANHRI Bureau.
