Conprehensive activity for prevention from torture undertaken


Since its establishment in 2001, National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia, has conducted various pluralistic activities by helping to put an to the practice of torture which is a serious violation of human righ to personal security, improve relevant legislation and policy and the condition of pre-trial detention centers, drunk tanks, and prisons, raising awareness of the law enforcement officers, and implementing the recommendations released by the UN Committee against Torture.

At the invitation by the NHRCM, Mr. Matthew Pringle, Europe & Central Asia Programme Officer of the Association for the Prevention of Torture, Ms Suraina Pasha, Regional Training Manager of the Asia Pacific Forum of the national human rights institutions, and Dr. Marko Mona, member of the National Commission for the Prevention of Torture in Switzerland worked in Mongolia from 28 October through 1 November 2013.

Conprehensive activity for prevention from torture undertaken

The NHRCM, with the assistance of these international experts specialized in prevention of torture issues, successfully organised 3 day training named “National preventive mechanism against torture” to build capacity of the NHRCM . 

Within the scope of the training the NHRCM team headed by Commissioner Oyunchimeg Purev, jointly with the international experts, conducted a regular inquiry at the Pre-trial Detention Centre No 461 on 29 October 2013. The international experts complimented the inquiry was undertaken at the high standard level of professional skills and methodology by using international standards properly.
