The United States Embassy in Mongolia has nominated Commissioner Oyunchieg Purev to the International Visitors Leadership Programme, which is organized by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State of the United States, and the Commissioner has been selected in the programme.

The morning tea meeting, organized on Thursday of the 3rd week of every month in the meeting room of the Open Society Forum, runs open discussion on timely important human rights issues, and this time it was held discussing on the topic, “Who can do what for the youth?” on 23 January 2014.

National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia delivered a Commissioner’s recommendation to the Federation of Mongolian Horse Racing Sport and Trainers.

The recommendation read as follows:

NHRCM conducted training on “Human rights based approach and methodology” for the officers of the Ministry of Population Development and Social Welfare, Agency of Social Welfare and Service, Social Insurance Authority, National Authority for Children, and National Rehabilitation and Development Center on 22 January 2014. Training for public servants

NHRCM, jointly with “Tegsh Niigem Holboo” NGO, conducted training for the representatives of the persons with disabilities from 21 province and 9 districts of Ulaanabaatar on 23-25 January 2014 on the human rights topics such as basic concepts of human rights, rehabilitation approach based on community, and ways to have complaints resolved.

NHRCM team led by Commissioner Oyunchimeg Purev worked in the Dornod, Sukhbaatar, and Khentii provinces on 23-25 December 2013.

National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia selected 21 officers who are to work in charge of provincial human rights matters from 1 January 2014. It organised capacity building training among these officers on 6-10 January 2014.

The 7th meeting of NHRCM and CSO was held in December 16th, 2013. During this meeting, NHRCM introduced a new rule of its Advisory board, presented information of CSOs which were involved in a bid for small grants in 2014 under the project of UNDP “Strengthening national human rights oversight capacity in Mongolia”, and gave information on NHRCM activities jointly conducted with CSOs in 2013 and determined priorities of the cooperation in next year.

Current situation of torture in Mongolia

Since its establishment in 2001, National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia, has conducted various pluralistic activities by helping to put an to the practice of torture which is a serious violation of human righ to personal security, improve relevant legislation and policy and the condition of pre-trial detention centers, drunk tanks, and prisons, raising awareness of the law enforcement officers, and implementing the recommendations released by the UN Committee against Torture.
