Commissioner participates in the workshop on NHRI’s roles in facilitating remedies for business-related human rights abuses

Dr. Oyunchimeg Purev, Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia, participated in the Workshop ‘Guaranteeing access to remedies for business-related human rights abuses: Role of NHRIs’ on Rabat, Morocco on 2 and 3 March 2016. The workshop was attended by the representatives of the NHRIs of the Asia-Pacific, Africa, Europe, and Americas, officials of the UNOHCHR, and representatives of other relevant bodies and experts.

Objectives of the workshop were to promote the exchange of experiences between NHRIs on their actual role in facilitating remedies linked to business related Human Rights abuses, Identify the potential role and contribution of NHRIs in facilitating access to remedy for victims of business related Human Rights abuses, through exercise of their Paris Principles mandate, Increase understanding of NHRIs on juridical and practical obstacles to access to remedy in cases of Human Rights abuses linked to businesses, and Identify concrete actions that can be taken by NHRIs individually and collectively for the follow-up of the implementation

process of a framework on legal accountability and remedies.

During the workshop Dr. Oyunchimeg Purev gave presentation on ‘Mandate of National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia to deal with human rights violations caused by business activities; Questions in concern’, briefed on the activities the Commission conducted in this field and concerned issues, and shared the Commission’s experience.

After the workshop in the afternoon on 3 March the ICC Working Group on Business and Human Rights held its meeting. Through this meeting the Working Group discussed and agreed on its 2016-2018 Strategy, which will be considered and adopted by the ICC Bureau on 21 March 2016 in Geneva.
