Discussion about rights of national minorities in Mongolia

High Commissioner on National Minorities of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe(OSCE)’s political advisor Mark Fumagalli, senior legal advisor Lawrence Hadirka, project officer Michael Angerman visited to the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia on September 4, 2017 and met Chairperson J.Byambadorj and Chief executive officer Ch.Altangerel.

It was the first ever visit to Mongolia for the representatives from High Commissioner on National Minorities and such representatives introduced about activities of the Commissioner. Subsequently, they were introduced about issues related national minorities and made discussion with representatives of the Commission.

Since it was established, the Commission has been addressing rights of national minorities. Particularly, the Commission made survey on Kazakh and Tuvan children’s right to education and included its findings in Commission’s annual status reports on human rights and freedoms of 2004 and 2010. Moreover, the Commission sent related proposals and recommendations to the state authorities. Based on such proposals and recommendations State Great Khural and the Government of Mongolia has been approving respective decisions on that matter.
